Wildflowers...

WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS. Introduced to me by a dear friend with a very high class taste in music.  Ideal if you like quiet (being the operative word), slightly sad music. There have been times in my life where there is nothing left but some good emotional acoustic guitar playing to turn to and WF does this so well.  Between songs the man has a sense of humour that is ironic and surprising.  Enough to keep one more than entertained.

He did a wonderful cover of Tom Petty's Wildflowers. With lyrics like 'You belong among the wildflowers, you belong in a boat out at sea, you belong with your love on your arm, you belong somewhere you feel free...'  Funnily enough, I'm sitting on my regular couch in my regular coffee shop and plastered (good word) across the walls are pictures of notable world "freedom" events. Firstly, there is a picture of the famous 1963 March on Washington, which was lead by none other than Martin Luther King, Jr. The image shows a man holding up a poster that simply states "One Man, One Vote".  Secondly, there is a picture of Mr Nelson Mandela and Winnie Mandela when the ANC first came into power in South Africa. Their iconic fist pumps demonstrate the exact feeling of freedom. AMANDLA. And lastly, there is a picture of Oscar Pistorius at his first hearing in 2013 following the alleged murder of his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The world (well at least the one I live in) is obsessed with this case. We wait with baited breath as to the outcome of this young South African mans future.

Freedom - a thing we take for granted as most of us are free but have that freedom threatened and I can only imagine what one would do.  May we constantly seek to live free lives, free from hurt and pain, free from anger and strife, free from difficulties and sadness. And then may we seek to ensure others live in freedom too.
