Fires...

I can only imagine that each and every person that moves "a plane flights" (perhaps even "a boat voyage(?)") distance away from their childhood home and parents can sympathise with me today.  There are days when missing the familiarity of EVERYTHING is sometimes overwhelming.  Now I am perfectly aware that this is all the knock on effect of the fact that I am currently packing up my little, LITTLE room and moving it a mere 15 minutes down the road. How one accumulated so much stuff in just over TWO years is honestly inconceivable. I arrived on this mud island with two normal sized suitcases. Cue moving vans, friends with cars - the whole caboodle. Granted much of that space is going to be occupied by tights. Yes tights - draws and draws of pantyhose. How?! Why?! Who would have ever thought?! Summer in the Cape - how I long for you!

Anyway, needless to say this whole process is being completed while listening to some very sweet tunes. Nothing a solid stream of good music can't handle! (Note: the theme in the title of these...weird).

Wildflowers...

WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS. Introduced to me by a dear friend with a very high class taste in music.  Ideal if you like quiet (being the operative word), slightly sad music. There have been times in my life where there is nothing left but some good emotional acoustic guitar playing to turn to and WF does this so well.  Between songs the man has a sense of humour that is ironic and surprising.  Enough to keep one more than entertained.

He did a wonderful cover of Tom Petty's Wildflowers. With lyrics like 'You belong among the wildflowers, you belong in a boat out at sea, you belong with your love on your arm, you belong somewhere you feel free...'  Funnily enough, I'm sitting on my regular couch in my regular coffee shop and plastered (good word) across the walls are pictures of notable world "freedom" events. Firstly, there is a picture of the famous 1963 March on Washington, which was lead by none other than Martin Luther King, Jr. The image shows a man holding up a poster that simply states "One Man, One Vote".  Secondly, there is a picture of Mr Nelson Mandela and Winnie Mandela when the ANC first came into power in South Africa. Their iconic fist pumps demonstrate the exact feeling of freedom. AMANDLA. And lastly, there is a picture of Oscar Pistorius at his first hearing in 2013 following the alleged murder of his late girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The world (well at least the one I live in) is obsessed with this case. We wait with baited breath as to the outcome of this young South African mans future.

Freedom - a thing we take for granted as most of us are free but have that freedom threatened and I can only imagine what one would do.  May we constantly seek to live free lives, free from hurt and pain, free from anger and strife, free from difficulties and sadness. And then may we seek to ensure others live in freedom too.

(My week in music...)

Firstly, I apologise (to all THREE of you that actually read this). I have been lax at writing anything recently. In actual fact I can honestly say that any spare moment I have received in the past two weeks has been spent napping. Kipping. Passed out. Sleeping. Shut-EYEING!

In amongst the daily job, I have managed to secure myself a place to live (paperwork pending), started college again, been to birthday parties (Mike and Clare - here's to you!), completed (loose term) an audit and dated a little (wink). Incredibly stressful things. But it is now Friday, the sun is out in London, I didn't wear a coat today (risky) and I am off to listen to some live music with a group of friends. It's the small wins people. The SMALL wins.

I'll report back on the gig later.
